Bristol & Mendip Retune Event
On the 5th June 2019 you may notice problems viewing some of your Freeview channels if you live in the West or South West. Read on to find out a bit more about what’s happening:

Please note:
On the 4th April, in the Mendip area, BBC SD channels were simultaneously broadcast from channel 751+. This event has now ended and this simulcast will be closed on the 5th of June. If you cannot see your BBC SD channels in their normal channel locations after a retune, please contact the Freeview Advice Line on 0808 100 0288.
  1. What's happening?
In November 2014 Ofcom announced its decision to reallocate some of the airwaves used by Freeview to be used for mobile services. This spectrum change will be made to meet the predicted increase in demand for mobile data.

This change will mean that some Freeview channels will need to move to new frequencies, this process is known as 700MHz clearance.

The next stage of this process will take place on the 5th June 2019 and impact:
    • The Bristol Ilchester Crescent, Bristol Kings Weston & Mendip main transmitters

If you receive your TV signal directly from either of these main transmitters we advise you to do a quick retune of your YouView box to ensure you receive all of your Freeview channels (including BBC standard definition (SD), ITV, Channel 4 and 5) after this date. If you are not sure what transmitter you are using you can check using the coverage checker on the Digital UK website (click on ‘Detailed View’ before searching to see your specific transmitter!).
  2. What do I need to do?
The changes to the Bristol Ilchester Crescent, Bristol Kings Weston & Mendip main transmitters will change the transmission of a number of Freeview channels. You will need to retune on the 5th June or you may receive a YVM302 error code on screen when trying to view these channels.

Bring up the menu with your remote
    Select Settings
Go to Signal & Connection and select TV Channels
    Select Retune Channels

It can take a couple minutes to tune. Don't worry, we'll let you know when we're done. Please note that it is not possible to manually retune the box. Find out more about the changes happening.
  3. What happens if I have retuned and still can’t see the Freeview channels?
If you can’t see your Freeview channels after doing a retune please get in touch with the Freeview Advice Line on 0808 100 0288 for help (you can also visit for support information).
