Accessibility features
YouView is designed to make sure that our users who are blind, partially sighted, have motor skills impairments or hearing loss, can find the best content that they’re looking for:
Here’s a look at the features we offer:

  1. For users with visual impairments
    High contrast colour scheme
This alternate colour scheme changes all the menus to black and white colours, making everything clearer to read and helping you to explore YouView. For more information see our guide to using this.

    Interactive Zoom mode
This feature is a YouView first. Interactive Zoom lets you navigate with the screen while it’s zoomed in. For more information see our guide to using this.

    Channel Logos
We give you the flexibility to have channel names or logos in the guide. Whichever suits you best. For more information see our guide to using this.

    Audio Description
We offer Audio Description where available. We even added a handy shortcut button on the remote control. For more information see our guide to using this.

    Audio Feedback
We provide a set of audio tones for remote presses and on screen events to help those with visual impairments. For more information see our guide to using this.
  2. For users with ADHD
We give you the option to turn off the live TV picture to make browsing the menus less distracting. For more information see our guide to turning this feature off.
  3. For users with limited mobility
    Keyboard navigation
Using a household keyboard or an accessilbility keyboard like the Clevy, you can plug it into the box via USB and navigate. For more information see our guide to using this.

    The Grid 2 software
We’ve worked closely with Grid 2 to develop a series of grid sets using the Grid 2 software. You can put them on your PC and by using a device such as a head pointer or a switch controller can then use this software to navigate without the need for a remote control. For more information see our guide to using this.
  4. For users with hearing loss
    Sign language
We offer support for signed On Demand programmes. For more information see our guide to using this.

    Subtitles
We offer subtitles where available. We even added a handy shortcut button on the remote control. For more information see our guide to using this.
