Poor quality recording

A YouView Box FAQ

We record what’s on screen at the time the programme aired

If the recording quality is poor, then it’s likely there was an issue when it was live. Unfortunately there isn’t anything we can do to improve the quality of that recording, but we can offer you some advice on how to get the best quality recordings:

We record your Freeview channels from the aerial. It could be that the signal from your aerial isn't strong enough. Let's check your TV signal Quality:

  1. Bring up the menu with your remote
  2. Select Settings*
  3. Go to the Signal & Connection area and select Signal Quality

If your Signal Strength is below 50%, then you might start seeing issues with your picture. Have a read of our article: How to improve your signal for more help.

*Settings can be found via the cog in the top right corner of the Menu. You can get to the cog by pressing Up and right after opening the Menu.

Your subscription channels run off your broadband, so if you have speed issues, the quality of your picture can be affected. Here are some things that can affect your speed:

  • Watching On Demand programmes or another subscription channel can affect the quality of your recording in progress
  • If you have too many devices in your house using the internet, this can slow your speed down. Try disconnecting some of these devices and see if helps improve your issue

If you still have poor quality recordings, we’d recommend contacting your broadband provider for more help
